Submission Guidelines
                                                                          
New Writing

If you’ve been inspired to get your creative juices flowing then please follow our guidelines to submit work to our website.        

All short stories and poetry welcome from new and emerging writers. No set theme and any style is welcome. All writing will feature in the 'fiction' page of our website.                             

Short stories must be no longer than 1200 words                             

Poems must be no longer than 40 lines

Please include a word count along with a short biography to date.          

Submit as an attachment and email info@theasianwriter.co.uk with ‘New Writing’ in the subject heading.

Unfortunately we are not able to offer any renumeration for submissions.                                                                                              

Features and Commissions

The Asian Writer is now accepting submissions for features and columns. Should you have an idea for a story please briefly email us your idea (in no more than 500 words) with a brief biography and CV to date.                                                                  

From time
to time The Asian Writer may commission work for the website or otherwise.                                                             

Style Guide

Please ensure that your writing is in a .doc file and typed in no bigger than 12pt, 1.5 spaced. Include your name, address, email address and full contact details. A short biography of the writer is desirable in the house style.

Work may be edited before it is published. Writers will be informed if their work is going to feature and/or edited before it is published. A critique is not offered on any work submitted to the website.

Your submission will usually be acknowledged within seven days. If it is a holiday period it may take us a little longer to get back to you.

                         
The Asian Writer invites submissions to its New Writing Competition.

The Asian Writer New Writing Competition is for: poems of up to 40 lines, max of three; fiction of up to 2,500 words, max of three. It is particularly aimed at encouraging British Asian writers. All short listed entries will be published on our blog, with the winning entries published on our website and in the new Annual. Free entry, open to all, for an entry form click here. Closing date: 12th December 2008

Prizes

The winning entries in each category (poetry and fiction) will win a £50 Waterstones Gift card.



They will both receive a copy of The Wasted Vigil by Nadeem Aslam (courtesy of Faber).

ENTRY

Entries can take the form of a short story, poem or first chapter on any theme.

You may submit up to three pieces which must be new writing, and previously unpublished (online or in print).

Short stories must be no longer than 2500 words

A critique is not offered on any work submitted.
Save your file as a .doc file, with the title of your piece as the file name.

There will be one official winner. Short listed entries wiill be published in the New Writing section of our blog. The winning entry will appear on our website and in The Asian Writer Annual 2009. An online anthology of all the best entries will be published in March 2009.

The winner will be selected by The Asian Writer, and no correspondence will be entered into about the winning entry.


RULES

An entry form must accompany your entry. You can download one here or request one via email info@theasianwriter.co.uk.

The competition is open to all writers, whether published or unpublished.

All entries must be written in English.

If you are a published writer, please state this on the entry form identifying where you have been published.

The Asian Writer New Writing Competition is aimed particularly at encouraging British Asian writers but you do not have to be Asian or British to enter.

Your entry will only receive an acknowledgement if you request one.

Short listed entries will be selected in January 2009 and will be informed by post. The winning entry will be announced on February 22nd 2008 and will appear in our March edition of The Asian Writer.
